It's not necessarily just an old game with a coat of paint, it's old game logic putting on a costume and just effortlessly slithering it's way into modern storefronts and just FITTING IN. It feels like someone played System Shock 1 then 2, immediately hopped in a time machine to today, saw modern visuals and just made SSR without having the slightest clue how game mechanics had evolved between then and now. It doesn't necessarily feel like an old game the way boomer shooters do. Boomer shooters are the definition of play it the way you remembered it and I love them for it. I played all the "doom clones" and build games back then.īoomer shooters are great, pure throwbacks to simpler visuals and raw speed and aggression modernized to within an inch of losing their identity. For context, I grew up in the 80's, grew hair in the 90's.
